Jane Iredale’s New PureGloss Lip Glosses

PureGlossGroup-archHR

Since red lips are the color of the season, I was thrilled to test out Jane Iredale’s updated and revamped PureGloss lip glosses in Crabapple and Red Current.  Crabapple is tomato red and Red Current is a sparkly strawberry color. They are both super flattering and have a nice berry favor thanks to all-natural fruit extracts.   The new glosses have a flatter, longer tube for easier storage and now include more product (when was the last time any company actually gave us more product instead of less?).  Iredale also added more colors and changed the consistency by adding some new ingredients like moringa butter and avocado [...]

733767_526562647395982_250577234_n

Once you decide to switch to natural products, you find yourself in a bit of a quandary.  Gone are the days when you could grab some mascara and window cleaner quickly at the Safeway down the street.  Often, I can’t even find what I want at the Whole Foods.  You need a store that carries everything you need and can get it to you quickly (preferably with low or no shipping charges). Essentials was founded by Jennifer Knox, a wife and mother of two sons, who was looking for alternative methods to help relieve symptoms from eczema, lethargy, IBS and alopecia. [...]

Obvita Organics Coconut Milk Face & Body Cream Giveaway!

Screen Shot 2013-04-29 at 6.10.23 AM

Pretty much everyone who comes to my house leaves with natural skin care advice and products to try.  Recently my sister in law visited with her children, one of whom has super dry skin.  Obvita Organics Coconut Milk Face & Body Cream was the first thing I reached for.  It leaves your skin nourished, feeling like silk, and smelling like sweet orange and vanilla (ie like a creamsicle).  It contains tons of aloe vera, jojoba oil, and coconut milk which explains the amazing way it quenches parched skin and is devoid of anything I’d be uncomfortable putting on my children. It also [...]

True Beauty Box – April 2013

naturalbox

I subscribe to quite a few natural beauty subscription boxes and I held off on signing up to the True Beauty Box because I already have so many products.  But I read a lot of beauty blogs and well, they just lured me in with promises of full-size natural goodness.  What can I say, I’m a sucker for beauty products. So here’s the deal with True Beauty Natural:  All the products are free of Parabens, PEG, Phthalates, Petrochemicals, and Synthetic Colors.  They are 100% natural and cruelty free.  The service is affiliated with the brands Lavera, Benecos, iLike, Green People and True Natural so you will be getting [...]

Brand Focus: Aidance Skincare & Giveaway!

adiance

Being accident prone, I’m used to needing first aid cream.  But now that I have small kids, it’s even worse.  Not a day goes by that there isn’t some minor injury for which a bit of cream and a Disney-themed band aid is needed.  I sort of just stumbled upon Aidance Skincare and I’m glad I did.  The whole idea behind the brand is treatments for minor cuts, rashes and other irritations based on activated minerals and natural clays.  Aidance is available in over 150 countries and has been creating skin care products for 10 years.  They are registered with the Federal Drug Administration [...]

Russell Organics’ Willobark Phyto Toner

willow tree 3

Before I started wearing mineral foundation, I wasn’t a big toner user.  It took me several months of looking chalky in mineral foundation before I realized one day that misting my face after applying the foundation completely got rid of the chalkiness and made my skin look fresh and dewy.  Now I use it every day and I’m always looking for a toner with anti-aging additives and a great scent. The Russell Organics Willowbark Phyto Toner contains black willow bark which you may see used as a preservative in natural products due to it analgesic, antiseptic, astringent, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory properties. Black willow extract contains salicin which enhances cellular turnover, [...]

Fei’d Review & Giveaway!

One of the side effects of pregnancy that I could live without is melasma.  Hyperpigmentation is a broad term referring to any skin condition that is caused by the uneven overproduction of pigment (melanin) in the skin to include melasma, uneven skin tone, age spots, sunspots and liver spots. Age spots/liver spots/sunspots are caused by an overexposure to the sun for extended periods and are officially known as solar lentigo. They usually donʼt appear before your 30ʼs or 40ʼs and typically form on the hands, arms, shoulders, face and neck since these areas are most often exposed to the sun.  [...]

Dissecting Labels – Carrier oils, Preservatives & Emulsifiers

Surgical_instruments500

Many women tell me that they are overwhelmed by the process of cleaning up their beauty routine – I completely understand.  So many companies blatantly lie about being “natural” that you basically have to police everything you put on your skin.  Doing so starts with figuring out the label but once you get used to it, it’s fast and easy to do. Here’s a quick primer.  Let’s dissect a lotion label with a little help from the EWG Skin Deep Database. Here we have Avon “Natural’s” Raspberry and Hibiscus Hand and Body Lotion.  I underlined the ingredients I do not [...]

Savon du Bois Shaving Soap & Diaper Rash Cream

Shave Kit

I discovered Canadian company Savon du Bois when reading about the gift bag (that looked *awesome* btw) featured at the Green Beauty Team’s Renew Yourself party in March.  They make some really great products that I am loving now.  My twins should, in theory, not need diaper cream anymore. However, we’re still working on potty training and we’re at the “two steps forward, one step back” phase.  This diaper cream is really creamy and soothing and is full of great, safe ingredients.  I’ve used it on diaper rash as well as scrapes and dry skin.  It features Sarafino olive oil which [...]
